Thinking About Becoming a Roman Catholic?

If you are thinking about becoming a Roman Catholic, you may want to find out more about the R.C.I.A. program at St. Basil's. The initials R.C.I.A. stand for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The R.C.I.A. is the process by which:

- a person who is not a baptized Chrisitian can become Roman Catholic;

- a person who is baptized in another Christian denomination can be received into the Roman Catholic church; or

- a person who was baptized in the Roman Catholic church can complete their initiation through the sacrament of Confirmation.

If you would like to find out more about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, please call our Parish Office. We would love to hear from you.

Welcome to St. Basil's

Welcome to historic St. Basil's Church in the heart of downtown Toronto and welcome to our website! We hope that you find this site interesting and informative.

St. Basil's, founded by the Basilian Fathers in 1856 is the third oldest Catholic church in the city of Toronto, after St. Paul's Basilica and St. Michael's Cathedral. Although we are located in the heart of downtown Toronto, our ministry extends far beyond the local area. Not only are we the Collegiate church of the University of St. Michael's College in the University of Toronto, our parishioners come to worship here from all over the city. Since October 2007 we have been the home of the national televised Daily Mass, reaching people in their homes all over Canada. The Daily Mass is broadcast six days a week on Vision TV, CTS, and Salt & Light TV.

We are delighted that you have taken the time to visit our website. If you are not already a parishioner, please drop in and visit us when you are in the neighbourhood.

Illness in this sense includes physical, psychological or emotional illness. We invite all who are in need of healing to come forward to be anointed at these masses.

The World Day of the Sick was instituted by Pope John Paul II and is celebrated each year on February 11th, the same day as the commemoration of the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes.
